What to Make for Mother’s Day Breakfast or Brunch

Mother’s Day Breakfast & Brunch Ideas (+ Planning Tips for a Relaxed Morning)

Mother’s Day has always held a special place in my kitchen. When my mom, Sally, was alive, it was one of my favorite occasions to honor her with a delicious meal. While my role on this day has changed, those memories are the inspiration behind many of the recipes I develop today. They lead me to share reliable dishes and menus that help you celebrate the women in your life with ease - exactly as my mom would have wanted.

Today I’m sharing 30 breakfast and brunch recipes you can mix and match into a menu that fits your plans. Many can be prepared ahead and served with ease. I’ve also included 4 menus that work well - easy, elegant, for a group, and breakfast in bed - along with tips to help you pull everything together.

If you’re planning a full day of celebrating, you might also enjoy my Mother’s Day Lunch Menu and Elegant Mother’s Day Dinner Menu. Like this one, they feature make-ahead dishes that keep the day relaxed and special.

What to Make for Mother’s Day Breakfast - Where to Start

If you’re not sure where to begin, start by thinking about:

  • How you want the morning to feel (quiet and relaxed, or a little more festive),
  • how many people you’re feeding, and
  • where you’re going to serve it (at the table or on a tray for breakfast in bed).

Then build your menu around one or two key dishes that fit those criteria.

An Easy Way to Plan Your Menu

Choose:

  • One main dish (sweet or savory).
  • One or two baked goods or sides.
  • Coffee, tea, and/or juice.

That’s often all you need!

A Plan for a Stress-Free Morning

A little bit of planning ahead makes all the difference. Here are some general guidelines to help you create your own make-ahead timeline:

Two to three days before

  • Do the grocery shopping.
  • Purchase flowers for the table.
  • Make the baked good.

The day/night before

  • Set the table.
  • Prep the main dish (baked French toast, a casserole, etc.) and any sides.
  • Wash and cut fruit, if serving.

In the morning

  • Finished baked dish.
  • Set out coffee, juice, and anything that can sit.
  • Warm baked goods.

A Few Favorites

Here are some of my favorite recipes for a celebratory breakfast or brunch:

Make it the night before and bake in the morning.
